The Many Benefits Of Preparation

The Many Values of Preparation

I first heard this powerful statement from Dr. Mildred C. Harris, "Preparation is never wasted time."

During my life, it has proven to be true.

As the 2024/2025 school year begins, we at Girls and Boys of Character are taking an active approach in helping prepare our Mentees for a productive year.

Preparation Discussions

We began our discussion by asking our group how they prepare for the school day. It was a great and eye-opening experience.  What I enjoyed most was the freedom they displayed.

Preparing for the day the night before can significantly impact the ability to learn and develop.
It lessens the chances of starting the day with stress because your child can't find their socks or forgot where the put their shoes.

A smooth-running morning increases the chances of eliminating or decreasing anxiety.

Leaving the home without frustrations helps to make for a fun and productive day. This does not only apply to your child, but it also helps in setting the atmosphere of the classroom.  It spreads across the classroom allowing the teachers the ability to operate with less interruptions that take time away from the learning experience.

Speak An Encouraging Word

Before your children leave, speak positively to them and over them.

"You're going to have an amazing day!"

"You got this!"

"I'm so proud of you!"

Positive words can make such a difference in the lives of children as well as adults.

Other Tips for preparing for the school year:

  • Help your children develop a nightly routine.  This may take a while to develop a routine that works for both parents and child. And it may be different for each child based on their age, needs, etc.
  • Limit time with electronic devices.
  • Set an example. Let them see you preparing for the following day.
We're sure you like us are looking forward to a grand school year.

Also, be sure to subscribe to our blog so that you won't miss any.
