Creating Good Study Habits

Creating Good Study Habits

At GBOC we are dedicated to preparing the children for a successful future.  One of the benefits we offer is help with completing their homework.

Children thrive on structure. Setting a regular study time each day helps train their brains to focus during that period. They understand that the first hour is dedicated to completing homework assignments.

However, some students do not receive homework from school, that's not a problem for us because we create or obtain curriculum for them to complete.  Now, this is not well received in the beginning by those that do not receive homework.

But they have now excepted that they are required to complete the assignments. Again children thrive on structure and they love it.

We have found that now some of those that were opposed to it, now complete the assignments and even ask for more!

Taking Notes

During our Thursday Black History Lesson one of the children asked if I could pause for a second while they got their composition book to take notes!

Imagine a seven year old desiring to take notes on a lesson without being told or suggested to do so!

My answer of course was, "Absolutely!

She started a positive trend because other students are now taking self-initiative to write notes in their composition books!

Here are some of the benefits of children taking notes:

Learning to take notes early strengthens comprehension and memory.

  • Helps children process information actively.

  • Improves memory retention.

  • Encourages listening skills.

  • Builds summarizing and critical thinking abilities.

Writing information down forces the brain to slow down and organize ideas.

Discussing their notes in the group helps to build confidence and strengthen community in the group.

We are excited to see the children growing in a love and appreciate for learning.

Thank you for reading our blog.
