Children cab be detail detectives.
While we adults are going about our day, preparing meals or lessons, children are actually paying attention to details.
A perfect example is of one our youngest mentees and while I was not paying attention, this young boy was.
We have a code on our office door, and to my knowledge, not other child has ever tried to figure out the code.
But this little guy...
While having a moment of correcting his behavior, he says, "I know the code to the door." Us adults look at him in amazement. (First one.")
I ask, "What are the numbers to the code?"
He responded with a question, "How many 6s do you put in the code?"
We both looked at each other (second point of amazement).
We're tying to figure out how long has he been watching up open the door and have that level of detail on the door code.
This kid was paying close attention to detail.
Here's the third level of amazement. I asked, "What else do we do when we put the code in?
He answers without hesitation, "You punch the tic toc number!"
It was obvious that this little fellow had be paying close attention when we were entering the door.
We looked at each other and couldn't help but to laugh.
What we realized is that while this kid had some areas he needed to work on, clearly he had attention for detail!
We have decided that while working on the area he needed strengthening in, we would also strengthen his attention to detail. We believe that this will increase his confidence level.
