Let’s be honest — we don’t always feel like going places. I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes all I want to do is go home and sit down. And with winter setting in, it gets even harder. Six or seven inches of snow, scraping off the car, letting it warm up before you can even pull away… unless you genuinely enjoy winter, none of that feels pleasant.
On those days, we often have to give ourselves little pep talks just to get moving.
“Just get up and get going.”
“Your attitude will change once you get there.”
“You’ve only got a few more days until the weekend.”
And have you ever noticed that when you do push through — when you show up to the job, the meeting, or the family gathering — your whole mindset shifts once you arrive?
Maybe they’re serving your favorite meal or dessert. Maybe you run into someone you haven’t seen in a while, and by the end of the conversation they tell you that your presence or your words were exactly what they needed. Just by showing up, you’ve made a difference in someone else’s day.
And the same goes the other way around. How many times have you shown up somewhere and someone else said exactly what you needed to hear? A conversation, a bit of encouragement, a simple moment of connection—something that lifted your spirits in a way staying home never could have.
Either way, showing up has power. It shifts energy, opens doors, and creates moments we didn’t know we needed.
So let me encourage you: just show up. Sometimes that’s all it takes to make a difference—whether in your life or someone else’s.
