On Saturday, November 15, 2025, a beautiful part of GBOC Founder Norma Venable’s dream came true. She hosted her very first book signing for her debut title, My Voice, marking a milestone she had long envisioned.
The room quickly filled with excitement as guests began to arrive. Norma’s supportive husband, Leon, was the first to walk through the doors, followed closely by her daughter Nichole and a dear family friend. Soon after, friends from near and far gathered to celebrate her accomplishment, have their books autographed, and join in a lively Q&A session.
One of the most touching moments was the arrival of Norma’s childhood friend since third grade, Sandra Warren Holder, along with her Aunt Marlene, her favorite cousin, longtime friends, colleagues, and community members. Their presence added warmth and meaning to this already unforgettable day.
The event opened with guests sharing stories about how they met Norma and the roles she has played in their lives. Their heartfelt reflections set a beautiful tone for the rest of the evening, honoring not just the book, but the woman behind it.
Norma share her personal experience about how and why the book was written. She believes advocating for yourself is importation for children as well as adults. This belief was obviously shared by the guests and they chimed in “Yes” as she spoke about it.
When asked about future books, Norma answered she wants to write a book about rejection. The moderator asked the guests to share with her topics they would like her to write about. The topics were noted.
During the signing of the book, some of the children in the GBOC program assisted Norma with the process. They were able to experience their first book signing as well as see that dreams can and do come true.
Norma’s first book signing was more than an event—it was a celebration of community, connection, and the power of finding and sharing one’s voice.
