A Different Kind of Discipline
Take a minute and think of the ways you were disciplined in your home.
My parents both shared in disciplining me and my siblings. There was no 'Wait until you father gets home."
The my mother needed to discipline us, she did it right then and there, and so it was with my father.
If it was something worth a 'whippin', we got one. But it wasn't that often.
But back in my day of growing up, getting a whippin was accepted. As a matter of fact, your neighbor could whip you and take you home, explained what you did and you got another one from your parents.
That doesn't happen during these time.
The Look
My mother was soft spoken and still is to this day, she didn't do any yelling. But she had this look. And when she showed that look on her face, we automatically knew to get our act together.
Today's Discipline
Time have changed and so have our ways of discipling our children.
And while the ways of discipline have changed, it still takes a village.
We have to collaborate with those that have a positive interest in our children as well as those that are invested in them.
At GBOC we work along side the parents in anyway we can to help in the positive development of the children.
We develop disciplinary process for the children without them really knowing they are be disciplined.
This may involve giving personalized assignments that address behavior issues.
Without going into any details I ask you to visit our Facebook page and hear one of the children read the short story he has written on the topic of horse playing.
By working together, the parents an GOBC developed a discipline action that increases the writing skills, taps into the child's creativity and increases their confidence and presentation skills.
Yes, with this new generation we have to create new ways of effectively disciplining them.
